Abstract Nurses are at the forefront of the treatment of patients with COVID-19, so they can be affected more emotionally because they face more risks and establish a closer relationship with the patients than other healthcare personnel. With the COVID-19 pandemic, many factors should be considered for healthcare workers, such as providing direct care to infected patients, staying away from their families and friends, working under intense conditions, working in a stressful work environment, and increasing stress levels. Moreover, such stress may affect healthcare workers’ performance of their tasks (Kim et al., 2020). Aim of the study This study aimed to determine the effect of psycho educational program on reducing psychological stress and improving coping patterns for Nurses Caring for Patients with COVID-19. This aim was achieved through: 1- Assessing level of psychological stress and coping patterns for nurses caring for patients with COVID-19. 2- Accordingly designing psycho educational program to reduce psychological stress and improve coping patterns for Nurses Caring for Patients with COVID-19. 3- Implementing psycho educational program to reduce psychological stress and improve coping patterns for Nurses Caring for Patients with COVID-19. 4- Evaluating the effect of psycho educational program on reducing psychological stress and improving coping patterns for Nurses Caring for Patients with COVID-19. Research hypothesis: The psycho educational program would have positive effect on reducing psychological stress and improving coping patterns for Nurses Caring for Patients with COVID-19. Subjects and methods of this study were portrayed under four main topics as follow: I- Technical design. II- Operational design. III- Administrative design. IV - Statistical design. I- Technical design: Research Design: - A quasi experimental design (pre/posttest) was used in the current study. Quasi-experiment is an empirical study used to estimate the causal impact of an intervention on its target population without random assignment. Research Setting: - The study was carried out in Benha Fever Hospital which is affiliated to Egyptian Ministry of Health and located in Edart Al Morour, Qism Benha, Benha, Al Qalyubia Governorate, and Egypt. The Hospital composed of two buildings with capacity of 66 beds .one building is for the lab, X-ray and CT and the other building consists of 4 Floors. The ground floor is for reception and outpatient clinics, the first floor is operations theatre which consist of ( 5) operation rooms, the second floor is for inpatient which consist of (36) beds, The third floor is for ICU which consist of (14) beds for Adult, (6) beds for pediatrics and (5) beds for CCU. The fourth floor is for human resources and other administrative departments. The program sessions were conducted in the first floor in an unoccupied room inside the hospital that contains an appropriate number of seats. Inclusion criteria: - • Nurses who give direct care to patients with COVID-19. • Willing and agreeing to participate in the study. Exclusion criteria: • Nurses who were diagnosed with COVID-19 or had low Immunity. Research Subjects: - Sample size: Convenient sample of all available number of nurses caring for patients with COVID-19. Tools of the Study: - In order To fulfill the aim of the study, the data will be collected using the following tools. First tool: Socio-demographic data questionnaires: Socio-demographic characteristics of the nurse include age, sex, marital state, education, years of experience, work hours per week, and night duties per week…etc. Second tool: Emergency Psychological Stress Scale: This scale developed by Vagni et al., (2020) consists of 28 items based on six subscales: Organizational–Relational Stress: Consists of 6 items measures the stress levels related to the organizational context, relationships with colleagues, and social support, Physical Stress: consists of 5 items describing symptoms of physical fatigue, Inefficacy Decisional Stress: consists of 4 items that analyze decision-making aspects and the possibility to act, which are related to the level of self-efficacy, Emotional Stress: consists of 6 items that indicate the participant’s emotional reactions, Cognitive Stress: consists of 4 items on the cognitive aspects of stress, COVID-19 Stress: consists of 4 items regarding worries related to the COVID-19 emergency. Scoring system used three points ranging from 1 to 3 respectively as: (3) always, (2) sometimes and (1) never. • High psychological stress from 28 to < 35 • Moderate psychological stress from 35 to <60 • Low psychological stress from 60 to < 87 |
