Abstract The ban on AGPs and efforts to reduce therapeutic antibiotic usage in poultry, has led to major problems of gastrointestinal dysbiosis. They are either damaging the performance or leading to high mortality percent among flocks. The key element at such case is the bird immunity that we should work on to keep both resistance and performance very high. Considering that, the major part of the bird immunity is coming from its intestine, so the gut health management is a milestone to overcome the immune suppressive status in the poultry farms nowadays. In poultry production, short chain fatty acids (formic acid, acetic acid, butyric acid) are preferred acidifiers. Among which, butyric acid is considered as the prime enterocyte energy source, necessary for development of Gut Associated Lymphoid Tissue (GALT) and has the highest bactericidal efficacy against the acid-intolerant species such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella sp. with selective stimulation of beneficial gut bacteria. |
