Abstract

Hypofractionation radiation therapy is a strategy based on delivery of a larger daily dose of radiation to reduce the overall treatment time, cost and hospitals over population.
Accordingly, this work was conducted aiming to investigate the current status of Hypofractionated radiotherapy in the treatment of localized prostate cancer, including efficacy and toxicity, by using 5 fields ,7 fields and 9 fields Intensity modulated radiotherapy.
The purpose of the present study was to investigate the current status of Hypofractionated radiotherapy in the treatment of localized prostate cancer, including efficacy and toxicity, by using 5 fields, 7 fields and 9 fields Intensity modulated radiotherapy.
The results of the current study showed that, Hypofractionation Radiation Therapy for Prostate Cancer is a feasible and safe technique for patients with intermediate and high risk localized, locally advanced. According to our results this treatment seems to be associated with a tolerable frequency and severity of Acute and Late Toxicity. The rate of Acute and Late Toxicity after treatment by hypofraction radiotherapy is low. This technique provides shorter overall treatment time and gives several advantages for both of medical and economic compared to conventional fractionation thus sparing treatment capacity on the linear accelerator. Additional validation with a longer follow-up is needed.
In our study, based on the above comparative dosimetric results between 5, 7 and 9 fields, all patients were treated with 7 fields IMRT as it is significantly spare the rectum compared to 5 fields with significantly less monitor units and treatment time when compared with 9 fields.
