Abstract

This study was carried out during 2012 and 2013 seasons on uniform in vigour 40- years old Saidy date palms produced from offshoots and grown in a private date palm orchard at El- Farafrah oasis, New Valley Governorate. Planting distance is 7 x 7 meters apart and the texture of the tested soil is sandy. The selected palms were irrigated with well water through surface irrigation system (salinity was 400 ppm). All horticultural practices especially hand pollination (except those dealing with fertilization and foliar application of some antioxidants which considered the present treatments of this study) were carried out as usual.
The goal of this study was examining the effect of inorganic, organic and biofertilization as well as spraying some antioxidants on some vegetative growth characters, palm nutritional status, yield and fruit quality of Saidy date palms.
Statistical analysis was done using randomized complete design where the four fertilization treatments occupied the main plots and the four antioxidants treatments ranked the subplots. Each treatment was replicated three times , once palm per each.
According to the obtained data and under the environmental conditions of New Valley Governorate and the resembling conditions, it is suggested to fertilize Saidy date palms with the suitable N (1000 g N / palm / year) as 60% inorganic + 20% organic N + 20% bioform of N besides spraying salicylic acid four times (1st week of March and at 45 day intervals) at 250 ppm for obtaining higher yield and improving fruit quality. Application of such promised treatment in one feddan containing 84 Saidy date palms achieved net return reached 6780 and 9167 L.E. over the check treatment during both seasons, respectively.
