Abstract

New trends of mapping from high resolution remote sensing imagery present the importance and the necessity of using them in many applications such as topographic and thematic mapping. Mapping from remote sensing imagery offers the sufficient accuracy, completeness and reliability instead of conventional methods. Some of remote sensing satellite systems with their technical characteristics are thoroughly discussed. The potential use of space imagery for topographic and thematic mapping from these systems are studied and summarized. So far, there is no classification to give the optimal selection list of space imagery according to the user image selection criteria. This work is devoted to accomplish this goal by creating and developing a simple guide Visual Basic Software, called the remote sensing Image Selection Guide Software (ISGS) for selecting the suitable space imagery. The results obtained present the efficiency of ISGS for determining the appropriate space images for the given applications (projects).
