Abstract study was conducted on 50 patients with secondary anemia and 20 normal controls. Patients were to 4 groups. Group I secondary hemolytic anemia/ lernia secondary to infection, and systemic diseases iron deficiency anemia and group IV secondary post ric anemia. Controls constituted group V. study included careful history, thorough clinical in, and laboratory investigations which included I urine analysis, (CBC) complete blood count, and ttometric assessment of total plasma proteins,lobulin and albumin to globulin ratio, and spectro-.c measurement of activity of NAD-oxidase as one of »bin reductase couple enzymes and measurement of 0. hemoglobin derivatives including metheinoglobin, Lobin, carboxyhemoglobin and oxyhemoglobin. ;rophotometric determination of basic and acidic Buffer capacities and ratio of both, besides spectrophotometric measurement of absorbance at 5 wavelengths 340, 420, 542, 578 and 630nm and absorbance ratio of A578/A542. This study showed very highly significant elevation of Methemoglobin in all cases (50) of secondary types of anemia Denoting high prevalence of acquired methemoglobinemia, but such methemoglobinemia is inapparent clinically as highest methemoglobin level was 0.748 gm/dl or 8.7%. |
