Abstract Schistosomiasis and chronic hepatitis C (CHC) are the most prevalent chronic liver diseases (CLDs) in Egypt. Both conditions are known to provoke an immunologically- mediated nephropathy and both of them frequently coexist. The present study aimed to explore whether an associated HCV infection would have an impact on pathogenesis and linicopathological expression of schistosomal nephropathy (SN). Sixty Subjects were included in the study and classified into 3 groups: 1- 20 patients with: • Hepatic schistosomiasis (history, positive IHA test, SHF detected by US and liver biopsy). • Significant proteinuria (Protein/creatinine ratio in a random Urine sample >0.2)(290) fdNo HCV infection (negative ELISA III anti- HCV antibody). 2- 20 patients with hepatic schistosomiasis, significant proteinuria and chronic hepatitis C as proved by positive ELISA III anti-HCV and picture of chronic hepatitis on liver biopsy. j both groups, patients with other possible CLDs and other causes of proteinuria were excluded. 3- 20 healthy subjects of matched age and sex with (evidence of liver, kidney or any other disease. |
