Abstract
The present investigation was undertaken at Shandaweel Agricultural research Station, Agricultural Research Center, Egypt,during the three growing seasons: 1977-1978, 1978-1979 and 1979-1980. The objective of this investigation was to study:
1- General and specific combining ability effects for important quantitative traits in durum wheat,
2- The genetic system controlling the characters under investigation,
3- The relationships among studied attributes.
The studied characters included (1) harvest index and components (grain yield, biological yield, and straw yield); (2) yield components (number of spikes/plant, spikelets/spike, number of grains/spikelet and 1000 kernel weight), (3) morpho-physiological traits (days to heading, days to maturity, flag leaf area, plant height, peduncle length and spike length; and (4) quality characters, (hectoliter weight, protein content and carotein content).
