Abstract

Laser in situ keratomileusis, or LASIK, has emerged as one of the most common ophthalmic surgical procedures being utilized today. Although visual acuity tests determine the ability to resolve small details (i.e. high spatial frequency) at high contrast, the visual environment is composed of objects with a variety of spatial frequency and contrast, therefore to determine how well one can function in a complex environment, it is necessary to measure sensitivity to contrast as a function of spatial frequency. Eighty eyes were included in our study, they classified into two groups; Group A; included 40 eyes with spherical equivalent ranged from - 1,00 to -6,00D and Group B; included 40 eyes with spherical equivalent ranged from -6,25 to -12,00D, with myopic astigmatism up to -2,00D. FUJ1her subdivision were based on optical zone, each group were
subdivided into two subgroups, the first with optical zone less than 5,5 mm and the second with optical zone more than or equal 5,5mm. Contrast sensitivity were tested for each group preoperatively and at one week, four weeks and twelve weeks postoperatively, at each testing .
