Abstract

The main object of this work is to produce some types of cold work tool steels locally at Egyptian factories with the international standard specifications. The steel foundry at Delta Iron Steel Company helped us for achieving this target by producing five grades of tool steels with different chemical composition.
All the mechanical tests were performed on the steels at different states { as cast – as annealed – as hardened after annealing – and as hardened after casting}.
It is obvious from laboratory investigations that the first and the more important objective of this search which was provided, is achieved, and there are some notes have been observed.
1-Cheical composition of main alloying elements are in the desired ranges such as C, Mn, Cr, W , and V.
2-The used added alloying elements lead to raising ultimate strength and hardness specially at the 5th. Cast.
3-The values of hardness obtained are the same for the same values for the standard alloy tool steel produced by international companies at the same conditions of time and temperatures.
4-Also, the values of impact properties obtained are in the ranges of standard.
5-A cutting die has been designed as an application for the tool steel produced, and it is observed that its productivity is about 450,000 pieces as a tool life. This productivity is a good compared with the same grade of American standard steel.
6-There is evidence that the ability to produce alloy tool steel locally and with same quality.
