Abstract
In the field of Ophthalmology, amniotic membrane transplantation was first described by ”De Roth” in the 1940’s. However, De Roth used ”live” human amniotic membrane that is amniotic membrane which contained live cells. This led to the undesirable allograft rejections he had in treating patients with conjunctival defects.
