Abstract

With the increasing world food shortage problems and limited water resource situation, the irrigation system is increasingly important to the purpose of increasing and stabilizing agriculture production. The primary reason for irrigation crops is to supplement water available fiom natural sources of water, such as rainfall, dew, floods and ground water which seeps into the root zone. Irrigation is needed in areas where water fiom natural sources is adequate for crop production during only a part of the year or in sufficient is some years and not in others. The amounts and timing of irrigation depend on several factors such as climatic, soil and crop. Irrigation in arid areas of the world such as in modem lands in Egypt divided into two types named, drip and sprinkler irrigation systems. Two primary objectives of irrigation in arid areas of the world are: (I) To supply the essential moisture for plant growth, which includes the transport of essential nutrient. (2) To leach or dilute salts in the soil. The experiments were carried out in EL-Amana Society, Nobaria city, EL-Behera Governorate during summer season on corn crop. The present work includes two parts of work to desibrll and evaluate the efficiency of two different irrigation methods for the following reasons: - a) to give recommendations to the farmers on how to manage their irrigation systems, and b) to clear the fxmers confused about which type of emitters or sprinklers can be used in the Egyptian new lands.
