Abstract Job stress is associated with higher risk of myocardial infraction, diabetes mellitus and hypertension. Mental stress has a major role in provoking silent ischaemia. Also, sedentary life is one of the major risk factors for coronary heart disease as lipid disorders are common in sedentary men compared to physically active men. For these reasons, this study is planned to show the effect of the mental stress sedentary life as a risk factor. Also, to assess the blood glucose level and the serum lipids in other risk factors for CHD like obesity, smoking, D.M. and hypertension. This study was carried out on 227 employees (77 females and 150 males) above 40 years from Menoufiya University. They were classified into groups according to exposure to mental stress: * Group I: University staff members n-72 (31.7%) * Group II: Employees under mental stress n=46 (20.3%) * Group III: Employees who do secretarial work n=56 (24.7%) * Group IV: Employees who do manual work n=53 (23.3%) |
