Abstract

Femaleurinary incontinence is a common symptom, the prevalence of which varies between 5 % - 40 % of the female population, according to the age group. I Adnexal masses represent a distressing problem to patients and surgeons. Two percent of women will develop ovarian cancer during their lifetime and unfortunately, by time they are detected, two thirds in stage Ill or IV with poor prognosis.(Mege, 1990).
Adnexal masses could be simple, or life threatening ectopic pregnancy, or contribute to infertility like endometrioma, or could be malignant. Most of them are recently managed by laparoscopy. (Nezhat, 1992).
Laparoscopic management of suspicious adnexal masses may avoid unnecessary laparotornies for the treatment of benign structures and allow improved inspection of upper abdomen. (Canis, 1994).
Operative laparoscopy can be safe and effective in the management of adnexal masses in pre and postmenopausal women provided appropriate preoperative evaluation are performed (Van Herendael, 1995).
Recent literature related to laparoscopic management of adnexal masses reveal that it is technically feasible with low rate of morbidity and shorter hospital stay. (Childers, 1996).
The aim of the work is the evaluation of the role of operative laparoscopy in the management of adnexal masses as regards the diagnosis and treatment.
A total of 101 patients who underwent surgery at Stanford university school of medicine were included in the study and were
