Abstract

Ten diEaent strains of cy,moba.ct.eria. were isolated from different locations in Nile Delta and rice fields in Krrfr El-Sl~eil;l~E, l-Gl~arbiaa nd El-Behira tiovernorates, Egypt. from the isolated strains, only three were subjected to identification schemes and were identified as follows:- Jsolate no. 1 tw identified as Anabaena tylirzdrica, isolate no. 2 was identified as Nostoc rnuscortcrn, and isolate no. 3 was icimtiiied as Pseudanabae~za sp. These strains wre used for rice inoculation and studying biochemical activities. The results showed that: 1- The inoculated cyanobacteria were found to increase shoot height of rice varieties Giza 17 1, Giza 1 8 1, Giza 175 and IR 28, rate of tillering with lapse of time during the maximum tillering stage, number of spikeletdspike, total number of grains/spike, weight of filled grains in a given grain yield sample and weight of 1000-filled grain. Cirain and straw yields and their N-contents were also eizlzanced by inoculation with each of the tested cyanobactaial genera. 2- i\ low chemical N rate along with inoculation by the cymobacteria was found eEective in enhancing rice performance rather than N-fertilization with the full reconmended rate of the rice variety without application of cyanobacteria.
