Abstract Various t-ypes of nitropolyarylates were prepared by using interfacial polycondensation and solution polycondensation of 5-nitroisophthalic acid (II), 2-nitroterephthalic acid (v), 2-nitro-4-carboxyphenoxyacetic acid (VIII), and 2-nitrohydroquinone- 1,4-diacetic acid (XI), with different bisphenols namely, hydroyuinone (XIII), resorcinol (XIV), 4,4’- dihydroxyphenyl (XV) , 2,2-bis-( 4-hydroxyphenyl) - prcpane (XVI), and bjs-(4-hydroxyphenyl) sulphone XVII. In order to improve the properties of these polyarylates a nitro group is introduced in the polymeric chain to increase the solubility and thermal stability of polymer. Some of the factors affecting the interfacial polycondensation were studied in the present investigation, such as, the effect of concentration of the initial components and solvent type. The interfaci-a1 polycondensation reactions were carried out at room temperature. |
