Abstract Pyridine acid hydrazides, namely, picolinic (PH), nicotinic(NH) and isonicotinic acid hydrazides (INH) were prepared by standard method. Arylidene derivatives of pyridine acid hydrazides were synthesized by condensation of the free acid hydrazides with different aldehydes or ketones (salicylaldehyde, 2-hydroxy-lnaphthaldehyde and 2-hydroxy acetophenone). Palladium and ruthenium complexes were prepared by reaction of K PdCl and RuCl .3H 0 with the organic ligands in neutral medium. 2 4 3 2 The isolated solid organic ligands and metal complexes were investigated by melting point measurements, elemental analysis and IR-spectroscopy On the light of IR- and UV- visible spectroscopy, magnetic moment and the molar conductance results, it can be concluded that the palladium complexes are square planar while the ruthenium complexes are low spin octahedral geometry. The organic ligands of group (I) which are derived from picolinic acid hydrazide forms bimetallic palladium complexes, the ligands behaves as tetradentate dibasic acid towards the Pd(I1) ions. The arylidene derivatives of nicotinic and isonicotinic acid hydrazides are reacted as tridentate monobasic acid towards the Pd(I1) and Ru(II1) ions. from the IR- data, all the organic ligands and the metal complexes are in the ketonic form except of the Pd(I1)-complexes of group (I) of the organic ligands which are in enolic form. |
