Abstract The principal physiologic effect of the polypeptide hormone prolactin is initiation of lactation although different actions have been described.Intensive interest have been focused on PRL with respect to its effects on reproduction.The development of specific highly sensitive radioimmunoassay for PRL allowed the discovery of many endocrinological disorders .The aim of this study was to measure the changes in serum PRL levels of the normal females at different ages and to determine the serum PRL levels in p~atients with various gynecological disorders . Other hormonal and radiological studies for hyperprolactinaemic group were performed to know the role of PRL in reproductive endocrinology.This study was performed on control and patients groups. The control group consisted of 110 females who were divided into 5 subgroups according to the chronological age. These groups were newborn , children,adolescents (pre and post menarch), adult, and postmenopausal, each containing 20 females except the adult subgroup which consisted of 30 females divided according to the phases of the menstrual cycle into follicular. midcycle and luted phases. |
