Abstract

The main goals of this study are to delineate the subsurface geological structures, identify the pertophysical parameters, study the effects of the structure and lithology on the distribution of petrophysical parameters and evaluate the hydrocarbon potentialities in relation to the subsidence history, thermal maturity, seismic attributes and geological evolution. Four formations have been chosen to carry out this study. These formations are the Thebes, Nukhul, Rudeis, and Kareem respectively from bottom to top. - The area of study (East Bakr area) is in the middle portion of the Gulf of Suez, Egypt between . latitudes 28’ 24’and 28’ 38’ N and longitude 33’00’and 33’ 12’ E . This work consists of four major parts. The first three parts are well log analysis, seismic study, and burial history and thermal maturity. While the fourth part and the most important one is the stratigraphic modeling which is combining, connecting, and explaining the results of the first three parts. In well logging part, single curve shale indicators and two curves shale indicators have been applied to estimate shale volume. The best results were given by gamma ray method. For matrix content, M-N and MID plots have been used. According to these analyses the Thebes Formation is composed mainly of limestone with some streaks of shale. The Nukhul Formation shows carbonate and rnarle facies with high content of shale in the East Bakr M-1 well. The Rudeis Formation has high content of shale with some sandstone and marl beds. The Kareem Formation shows matrix of marle and evaporites with high content of shale. The Kareem and Rudeis Formation consider to be the main source rocks in the Gulf of Suez because they have a high content of organic matter. GR-Ivl, GR-Rt, GR-At, GR-p, and GR- & crossplts were constructed to determine the shale parameters. In the Thebes Formation, it has been found that GR, ranges &om 42 to 90.5 API; %, from 0.5 to 3 0hm.m; Ab& om 84 to 1 15 pseclfi; p, from 212 to 2.38 gm/cc a n, +, d from 24 to 4 1.5 pu%. The Nukhul Formation has GK, = 83 API; kh between 1.2 - 1.6 0hm.m; At 1 15 - 150; p, = 2.28 gm/cc.
