Abstract The pr e s ent inve~tigationw a s c a r r i e d out t o s t u d y the e f f e c t o f seed s i z e of corn i n r e l a t i o n t o c e l l shape, speed of seed p l a t e , implement forward speed and s u c t i o n . l e v e l en the performance of two types of p l a n t e r s , The f i r s t one is provided with mechanical metering device and tne second with pneumatic. The study was extended t o include c e l l f i l l percenthge, percentage of c e l l s having 2-3 seeds, percentsge of seeds missing, seeds s c a t t e r i n g and planting r a t e , The work consisted of both laboratory and f i e l d experiments. 5 .1 : Lnborutory experiments: Two unit-planters were designed and constructed from m a t e r i a l s l o c a l l y available to run the s e t of the laboratory experiments. One of these units is mechanical unitp l a n t e r and the other is pneumatic one. The laboratory set of experiments were carried out to evaluate the performcmce of two designed units. . * The main ports of the unit-planter are at3 followat (a) Seed box is made from galvanized steel sheet, (b) Feeding system. (c) Frame niade from iron angles. ( d ) Smear b e l t . ( e ) Transmission system. ( f ) E l e c t r i c a l motors. |
