Abstract

The objective of the present study is to design and construct a small suitable corn shelling machine from local materials to suit the demands of the farmer. A comparison test performance was carried out on the designed rilachine compared with another small foreign shelling machine. The test performance includes unshelled grain, grain damage and the economical operating costs. The same performance test was conducted on a bigger size local threshing machine and compared with the designed and foreign shelling machines from the economical operating costs. The performance of the machines was influenced by both drum speed and Concave-clearance ratio at different moisture contents during shelling corn ears. The developed machine was designed and constructed to fulfill the following requirements : - To be constructed locally from available materials to ensure low initial cost and availability of spare parts and ease of repair. All materials which were used in construction of the designed machine were purchased from local market and fabricated at the workshop of Tanta Plotors Company - To be of simple design to permit easy adjustments , operation maintenance and to match the limited technical skills of operators at the field.
