Abstract The present thesis is devoted to study the electroreduction of some Schiff- base compounds at the mercury electrode and evaluation of the dissociation constants of these compounds and the stability constants of their complexes with some transition metal ions using spectrophotometric and potontiometric methods. The thesis comprises of three chapters: Chapter I : includes a literature survey on the previous polarographic and voltammetric studies on Schiff-base compounds in different media and their complexes with metal ions using potentiometric methods. Chapter I1 : includes the method of synthesis of the solid Schiff-base compounds derived from antipyrine nucleus (series I) and the solid bis Schiff-base compounds derived from trizole nucleus (series TI) , preparation of the different solutions used in this work and description of the instrumentations which cover the diverse electrochemical tools such as dcpolarography, cyclic voltarnrntry, coulometry and potentiometry as well as spectrophotometry . m Chapter I11 : includes the results and discussion and consists of five parts: part 1 : includes the results obtained from the DC polarography of Schiffbase compounds of series I and TI in buffer solutions of pH 3-1 1 containing 30% (vlv) ethanol (series I) or 30% DMF (series TI ). The results obtained indicated that the Schiff- base compounds I,-Ic have the same polarographic Behaviour. |
