Abstract
The experiments were performed at skha Agricultural research station. Kfer El- Sheikh Governorate during 1977/ 1978 and 1978/1979 seasons to study the effects of transporting date of onion intercropped with cotton and the intercropping system on growth, Yield and keeping quality of onion as well as growth and yield of cotton. Transplanting dates of onion seeding were, dec-8th , dec-29 , Jan-19th ,Feb-9th and marach 3rd .Cotton seeds were sown im march 25th and 24th in the first second season, respectively.
A randomized complete block split-plot design with four replications was used , where the main plots were assigned for transplanting dates while the sub plots was devoted to intercropping system. The results may be summarized as follows : 1- Onion A- Vegtative growth :1- The higest plants were obtained from growing plants in December planting. Onion intercropped on the northern side gave the tallest plants. 2- Number of leaves per plant was higher in December planting than later ones. Onion intercropped on the southern side gave the highest number of leaves.
