Abstract It is essential for user-adaptive systems to have information about the user. Without any information about the user the adaptive system is not able to adapt itself to the user’s characteristics and preferences. The required information is stored and managed in the form of user models. Thus, a user model represents the system’s beliefs about the user. The construction and the content of user models is the main issue of this work. Further, a possible proposal for a user modeling system will be introduced and described. The concept of web-based learning and the use of the Internet in teaching and learning have received increasing attention over the recent years. It is postulated that one of the main problems with e-learning environments is their lack of personalization. Each learner has different preferences and needs. This Thesis reports a study of an intelligent learning environment where the learner’s preferences are identified, and then course presentation is customized in an adaptive manner according to the learner’s learning style. The course consists of learning objects which are stored in a repository. A learning system has been developed based on the learning-style model by Felder & Silverman. |
