Abstract Carpal tunnel syndrome, the name now commonly applied to compression neuropathy of the median nerve in the oar pal tunnel whioh is formed by the concave eroh of the oarpa1 bo¬nes covered by the radiocarpal, inter carpal ligaments and roofed by the transverse cArpal ligament. Aetiology :- The syndrome is produced AS 8 result of inorease of the volume of the structures contained within the carpal tunnel or any conditions which decreases the sill’:e of the tunnel. 1- Tenosynovitis:thickening of the flexor synovia1is in the carpal tunnel WAS the most connnon cause, which may be due to rheumatic~trBum8tic origin, pyogenic or tub¬erculous infection or non specific proliferative tenos¬ynovitis. 2- Hormonal ehr-nge a : - this Le ad to fluid retentiCln or inorease in the adipose tlsRue in the oarpal tunnel as that ooours at or near the menopause or during pregna¬ncy. |
