Abstract The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between ACE insertion / deletion polymorphism and the presence of coronary artery disease in a sample of Egyptian heart diseases patients (Myocardial Infarction or Ischemic heart disease). Furthermore, recognition and characterization of Angiotensin Converting Enzyme gene polymorphism by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) can help in diagnosis of susceptible cases for early discovery and prevention of heart diseases among affected families. We Concluded : a) There is a great probability of association of Angiotensin Converting Enzyme gene polymorphism with the occurrence of myocardial infarction among Egyptian cases. b) This study showed that In Egyptian cases with MI, the frequency of D allele is higher than the frequency of I allele. c) PCR is a relatively simple and accurate method for detection of Angiotensin Converting Enzyme gene polymorphism in myocardial infarction cases. Therefore we recommend: 1- Recognition and characterization of Angiotensin Converting Enzyme gene polymorphism by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) can help in diagnosis of susceptible cases for early discovery and prevention of heart diseases among affected families. 2- We also recommended for proper environmental behavior, combating pollution and stopping the bad health habits like smoking; to protect individuals carrying the unfavorable genes making them susceptible to myocardial infarction. |
