Abstract Two pot experiments were performed out at Meniat El-Nasr district, Dakahlia Governorate, Egypt to evaluate the effect of some organic residues (rice straw and farmyard manure) on vegetative growth, yield components and chemical composition of tomato, bean, wheat and common bean crops grown on an alluvial soil during the successive seasons of 2004/2005 and 2005/2006, and residual effect of applied treatments on soil fertility. 1. Effect of interaction between previous crop, organic wastes, and nitrogen fertilizer on residual nutrients and organic matter (O.M %):-:- -Data clearly appear that that application of organic wastes (rice straw RS, rice straw RS with farmyard manure FYM) treatments and N fertilizer levels combination of them had a pronounced effect on means of residual N ,P and K, content (mg kg soil-1) and OM% after tomato, common bean, bean, and wheat planting at two alluvial soil samples under studied. -Results point out that plots received 20 m3fed-1 (RS + FYM) organic (W2) and inoculated with nitrogen fertilizers - half nitrogen dose - (N2) [75 kg N fed-1 with tomato, 35.5 kg N fed-1 with common bean, 7.5 kg N fed-1 with bean, and 37.5 kg N fed-1 with wheat planting] contained the highest value of residual soil- N ,P,K, content (mg kg soil-1) and OM% at the silty-clay and clay-loam soil. 2. Effect of interaction between previous crop, organic wastes, and nitrogen fertilizer on crops:- -The highest mean values of yield (g pot-1), N, P, and K-uptake (mg pot-1) occurred with the treatment of 20 m3 fed-1 of RS with FYM (W2) + half nitrogen dose (N2) [75 kg N fed-1 with tomato, 35.5 kg N fed-1 with common bean, 7.5 kg N fed-1 with bean, and 37.5 kg N fed-1 with wheat planting] at the both alluvial soil samples. CONCLUSION -Organic manures recycled to agricultural land supply valuable quantities of plant nutrients and organic matter, which can help to meet crop fertilizer requierments and maintain soil fertility. -The highest mean values of yield (g pot-1), N, P, and K-uptake (mg pot-1) occurred with the 20 m3 fed-1 of RS with FYM (W2) + half nitrogen dose (N2) [75 kg N fed-1 with tomato, 35.5 kg N fed-1 with common bean, 7.5 kg N fed-1 with bean, and 37.5 kg N fed-1 with wheat planting]. |
