Abstract The present study was carried out at Ras-Sudr research station (Desert Research Center), Southern Sinai Governorate. The main aim of this work is using some of biological treatments in order to improve the nutritive value and palatability of some halophytic plants and their effects on sheep. Three salt plants were laboratorial studied concerning the effect of wetting and sterilization on their chemical and structural composition. The effect of biological treatment (with white Fruit Fungi) at incubation periods (1-3 weeks) on their chemical and structural composition was studied too. On the light of these in vitro results, 6 feed mixtures were formulated from the treated plants with either fungi P. ostreatus and P. florida or without biological treatment, besides berseem hay as a control. The roughages were offered ad. Lib. Besides 125 g barley grains/day/head of Barkirams in palatability trails. Thereafter, 3 mixtures were evaluated in metabolism trials followed by rumen liquor and haematological studies. It is to conclude that the fungal treatment improved animal feed intake from salt plants without harm affecting animal’s health and performance. Hence, it is to recommend offering some of salt plants, which are biologically treated for animals in desert without danger. |
