Abstract The present thesis deals with the petrography, chemistry and strength properties of Calcretes from Burg El Arab - El Imayid area along the the Northern Western Coastal plain of egypt. The major findings of this study are given in the following : (1) Tow main types of Calcrete, namely massive and nodular calcrete are encountered in the depressions between the pleistocene ridges of Burg El Arab - El Imayid area.In addition, Calcretized limestone and thin laminae of calcrete occur at different sites. (2) Calcretized limestone is characterized by the presence of coated grains, peloids and abundant fossil fragments reworked from the underlaying pleistocene limestone. |
