Abstract This thesis is devoted to develop new simple analytical procedures for the determination of three pharmaceutically important drugs containing carbonyl group; namely, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin and norfloxacin. They all belong to the family of fluoroquinolone antibacterials. The thesis is divided into four parts: Including a literature review about the studied drugs. : Part I. This section provides a kinetic spectrophotometric method for the determination of the studied drugs based on their alkaline oxidation with KMnO4 for a fixed time of 15 min. : Part II. This part is devoted to the development of new spectrophotometric methods by chargetransfer and ionpair complexation reactions with different organic dyes. This part is subdivided into: : Part III In this section, the three studied fluoroquinolones have been analyzed spectrophotometrically via their complexes with Bromocresol green (BCG), (Su(Bchloranilic acid ((Su(BCA) and tetracyanoethylene (TCNE). Part IIIA. : In this section, the studied drugs have been determined via their ionpair complexes with eosin and merbromin in aqueous buffered medium without extraction at their absorption maxima. Part IIIB : This part is concerned with the spectrophotometric and atomic absorption spectroscopic determination of the studied drugs through ionpair complex formation with inorganic complexes. This part is subdivided into: : Part IV. In this section, new simple spectrophotometric and atomic absorption spectroscopic (AAS) methods have been developed for the analysis of the studied drugs via their reaction with bismuth (III) tetraiodide to form insoluble orangered ionpair associates. Part IVA. : The studied drugs were analyzed by an extractive spectrophotometric method based on the formation of bluecolored ionpair associates between the drugs and cobalt (II) tetrathiocyanate at pH 2.5 ((Sn(Bmax = 623 nm). Part IVB. : The proposed methods were applied for the analysis of the studied compounds in their pharmaceutical tablets and spiked human urine and the obtained results were favorably compared with those obtained by the official and reference methods. |
