Abstract Introduction : Surveying the structure and phylogeny of tongue in some lizards Results and discussion : The present study stowing. 1. The tongue consists of three thirds : the first third (lip) is bifurcated, the second ( lingual body ) the last is the (radix) 2. Taste buds are missing in the present scincids. 3. Lingual musculature. The tongue muscles are divided into two types extrinsic and intrinsic muscles . 4. The present study also study the tongue development and this through examination of tongue from the embryo of lizards.C. ocellatus. 5. The present results are compared with different families of lizards to show the relationship between the habitat and the feeding type. 6. The present study also referring to the feeding cycle which recorded by video camera . 7. The keratohyaline granules are present. 8. The intrinsic muscle in the present scincid include M. verticalis transversalis and longitudinalis. 9. The lingual glands of the present scincids consist of numerous mycocytes forming a simple mucous epithelium form the crypt like investigations papillae. |
