Abstract Pervasive developmental disorders are a group of disorders that are characterized by qualitative impairment in reciprocal, social interaction, patterns of communication and restricted repertoire interests and activities. They were officially recognized in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 3rd Edition (DSM-III) as a distinct childhood psychiatric disorder known as pervasive developmental disorders ”PDDs’” with three subgroups; Infantile autism, childhood onset PDDs and atypical PDDs. In the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual Of Mental Disorders 3rd Editiion Revised (DSM-III R) Classification, only one specific subcategory of PDDs isrecognized namely autistic disorder to which they added different definition with drooping the age of onset as a necessary diagnostic criterion, all other groups that don’t meet the . criterion were to be put as PDD riot.otherwise specified ”PDDNOS”. In 1987, in the Tenth Edition Of The International Classification Of Disease ”ICD-10” the word health organization adapted the same major diagnostic term PDDS with eight subgroup; childhood autism, Atypical autism, Rett’s syndrome, Asperger’s syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder, over active disorders associated with mental’ retardation and stereotyped movements, unspecified PDDs and others.
