Abstract
To characterize the role of circulating E-selectin in patients with Acute leukemia, serum levels of E-selectin were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in 30 patients with acute leukemia (12 AML, 18 ALL) and 20 age-inatched healthy control subjects. The blood samples were obtained from patients before starting any antileukernic treatment then after 6 months when complete remission had been achieved. The mean level of sE-selectin was significantly elevated in patients at diagnosis when compared to healthy controls (P<0.001). At remission, it did not differ significantly from that of the controls. Moreover, sE-sel.ectin levels differed among FAB subgroups. The highest concentration was detected in a patient with AML (M2). sE-selectin levels were significantly correlated with splenomegaly as well as with peripheral blast cell count in patients with acute leukemia.
