Abstract

Magnetic resonance imaging represents a major advance in the diagnostic imaging of neurological disease. Its ability to image in three planes frequently provides more optimal anatomic definition. MRI is clearly the anatomic imaging modality of choice for the initial diagnosis and evaluation of cases of dementia. CT has a good ability to demonstrate ischaemic stroke, hemorrhage, tumors, hydrocephalus other cerebral lesions. The aim of this work is to study the capability of CT and MRI in evaluation of demented patient. This study included 100 patients presented with dementia. They were 61 males and 39 females their ages ranged from 30 years to 95 years old (with an average of 62.5 years). All cases were examined clinically, non contrast CT scan done for all case and 3 patients were examined by CT scan after contrast injection, spin echo MRI in different pulse sequences was done for all cases.
