Abstract This study was conducted on 50 children, out of them 25 patients were diagnosed as ALL (group I) including males and females with their ages ranging between one year to 14 years, the remaining 15 patients were diagnosed as ANLL (group II) with their ages ranging between 8 months to 120 months, The study also included 10 normal children of matched age and sex (group III), Serum LIF level was assayed in all subjects before treatment and after complete remission. The assay was performed using an ELISA technique. The level of serum LIF was found higher in group II (ANLL) than the control group (P = 0.0092) before treatment while there was no significant difference after treatment (P = 0.38521). Also there was no significant difference between LIF level both before and after treatment in group I (ALL) and control group (P = 0.2195 and P = 0.9531) respectively. On a trial to correlate between serum LIF level and other clinical or laboratory variables it was found that there was no correlation between LIF and these variables both in group I (ALL), and group II (ANLL). On atrial to discriminate between ALL and ANLL discriminant analysis was performed and showed that serum LIF exerted a loading effect towords ANLL. On studying if serum LIF level had any predictor value of relapse, it was found that the LIF was included and exerted a loading effect towords replase. |
