Abstract A crystal depostion diseases can ’be defined as a pathological condition associated with the prescence of crystals and one in which the crystals contribute to tissue damage. In recent years, the development of methods such as polarizing microscopy for identifying crystalline deposits in and around the joints has revealed: needleshaped crystals of mono sodium urate in patient with gout and calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate crystals in patient with pseudogout syndrome. Two other. crystal types have been identified in human cartilage and extra-articular soft tissue: Calcium hydroxyapatite and calcium orthophos- phate dihydrate. Gout is a metabolic disorder manifested by hyperuricaemia, recurrent attacks of arthritis, tophi formation and atendency to renal failure. Gout is classified into primary in which the hyper- uricaemia was attributed to an undefined inborn error of metabolism, or secondary in which hyperuricaemia developed . |
