Abstract 240 NPA were collected from children with upper respiratory tract infection. The specimens were exam¬ined for virus infectivity by inoculation in cell cUltures: The specimens were examined for viral antigen detection by direct TR-FIA of NPA and by direct IPS of NPA and of cell cultures inoculated with clinical specimens. Out of these 240 NPA, 16 specimens were positive for RSV by virus isolation in HDF and vero cells. sensitivity and specificity for TR-FIA were 89% and 98.5% respectively, and for IPs of cultures inoculated with clinical specimens, they were 100% and 98.6% respectively. 18 specimens were positive for adenovi¬ruses by virus isolation in HDF and Hela-Ohio cells. Sensitivity and specificity for TR-FIA were 90% and 100% respectively and for IPS of cultures inoculated with clinical specimens, they were 89 and 100% respec¬tively. 5 specimens were positive for influenza A virus |
