Abstract
The material of the present study comprised (14) patients with bilharzial corpulmonale. 12 males and 2 females with ages ranging from 20 to 40 (average 30 years) . These patients were selected from the out patient clinic of cardiology. Mansoura Unive~sity Hospital. The diagnosis of bilharzia’l corpulmonale was based on the presence of signs and symptoms of pulmonary hypertension. electrocardiographic criteria of right ventricular hypertrophy. and radiological evidence of bilharzial pulmonary manifestations. The’ diagnosis of the bilharzial aetiology of our cases was based on the presence of signs, symptoms of bilharzial hepatosplenic enlargment as well as the rectal mucosal sinp biopsy for living or dead bilharzial ova. Patients with associated other organic cardiac diseases or those with history of rupture of oesophageal varices as well as patients with heart failure or those with electrolytes imbalance were excluded from the present study and drug therapy was stopped one week before the test. All the patients were subjected to thorough history taking. clinical examination and investigation including urine and stool analysis. rectal mucosal snip biopsy, blood picture. liver and renal functions tests, radiological
