Abstract Bleeding from ruptured esophageal varices is one of the major health problems in Egypt and result in high morbidity and mortality. Colour coded Duplex imaging is a valuable screening non invasive diagnostic procedure for assessment of the portal venous system patency as well as the hemodynamic changes occurring during and after different therapeutic modalities. The aim of the present study is to know the effects of some therapeutic modalities as (spironolactone bumetanide, and propanolol) on hepatic blood flow as a portal decompressive measures in patients with sclerosed esophageal varices. This study was conducted on 30 patients with sclerosed esophageal varices on the basis of endoscopic finding in the Endoscopy Unit, of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Unit, Medical Department, Mansoura University Hospital. They were devided equally into 3 groups. Group (I): treated by spironolactone, bumetanide and propranolol. They were 4 females and 6 males with ages ranged from 30-60 years. Group (II): treated by spironolactone and bumetanide, they were 2 females and 8 males, with ages ranged from 28-60 years.
