Abstract This work is an attempt to clarify the significance of alphafoeto-protein in diagnosis of malignant liver and to show whether. the shistosomial involvement of the liver is of any contributary significance.the material of the present study comprised 10 normal Subjects (contrel group), 5 bilharzial non ascitic cascs, 5 bilharzin.l ascitic cases and 12 cases representing malignant liver group. All the studied cases were subjected to thurough clinical examination with special stress on history of bilharzial infestion and its treatment, state of the liver and spleen, presence or absence of ascites and jauundice symptoms suggestive of primary careinomas or liver csll failure • Investigations done included: Urine and stool examination. HB % , R.B.C’s count and W.E.C’s count. Serum albumin and globulin and A ratio. Serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT). Serum a Lphafoetoprotein (AFP) by radioimmunoassay (R.I.A), using C I S. AFP, RIA kit. |
