المستخلص The aim of the present work was to assess the degree of LVH in elderly patients with isolated systolic hypertension and to correlate the changes in LVH with the severity of hypertension and other clinical variables. The material of the present study comprised 40 patients with isolated systolic hypertension (ISH), 21 males and 19 females. Their age ranged between 60-80 years (mean 65.725). They were selected from Cardiovascular Outpatient Clinic in Mansoura University Hospital. A control group of 15 healthy subjects of matched age and sex was also included in the study. All patients has a diagnosis of established uncomplicated ISH which was made on the basis of clinical, ECG, radiological and echocardiographic diagnosis. Any patient with valvular heart disease, congenital heart disease, cardiomyopathy, disturbed cardiac conduction and atrial fibrillation, bronchial asthma, renal or hepatic insufficiency, cerebral stroke, ischaemic heart disease was excluded from the study.
