Abstract In the present work, semen samples were supplied by both; young normal fertile individuals and by individuals attending the outpatient clinic of ICasr El-3Ini for prob¬lems concerning Infertility. Their semen samples were submitted for investigation of the metabolic activities of sperm cells* A preliminary study v;as carried on aiming at id^nti-fication of the best incubation conditions under which an appreciable and reliable oxygen uptake by the sperm cells could be estimated using the direct Warburg raano me trie-method. In this itudy we used, only, the semen samples voided by young normal fertile individuals. The respiratory activity was expressed in the term of; liilcrollters of oxygen consumed by 100 millions of motile spermatozoa in one mlllillter of semen during the course of one hour when incubated in a pure atmosphere of oxygen r’Zo^u. Different medias were experimented and modifications were done in the type and concentration of the substrate used with comparison of Zo0 values obtained. |
