Abstract Several reports about the immunology of alopecia areata, a disease of unknown etiology, have been published, nevertheless, controversy is obvious and the subject is still open for discussion. So in a trial to understand the underlying immunologic etiology, this research was carried out on 20 patients with alopecia areata and 7 healthy controls; matched for the same aga and sex. The patients were selected to be immunologically comptent on clinical and routine laboratory investigations, from those attending Mansoura University Hospitals outpatient clinic during the peroid from Augest to November 1982. The immunologic study w~s done in the form of : Assessment of cell-mediated immunity through determination of percentage of E-rosette and migration inhibition factor (M.I.F.). Assessment of humoral immunity by quantitative determination of certain immunoglobulins in the serum as well as C3& C4. •The age of the pat.ients ranged from 4-40 years; 40 % were under 15 years while 60 % were above 15 years. |
