Abstract

mary nephrotic syndrome (PNS) is the most prevalent glomerular 1in childhood (900/0 of the cases). It occurs mostly between the ages d 6 years. Minimal change lesion is found in more than 85% of PNS in children between the ages of 2 and 6 years. though the exact cause of PNS has not still been precisely detectedion have been directed to the role of immune system in the genesis of the disease. Special concern was directed towards the ible role of T lymphocyte dysfunction. A variety of immunological nnalities has been described in NS: abnormal number and/or function cells as well as reduced levels of serum IgG. The current study was performed to evaluate the possible role of IL 2,4, and IFN y in the pathogenesis of PNS as well as their possible role in control of production of IgG subclasses in nephrotic children. This study was constructed in the period from July 1995 to June 1997 Nephrology Unit, Department of Pediatrics, Mansoura University ospital. The study group included 32 nephrotic children during their iitial first presentation; 17 children in remission and 15 healthy children f matohed age and sex as a control group. Twelve patients were evaluated oth in activity and after they achieved remission. All patients were subjected to: 1- Assay of IL 2, IL 4, and IFN y in the supernatant of PHA stimulated lymphocyte cultures. 2- Measurement of serum IgG subclasses.
