Abstract The present study was performed to investigate the impact of oxidative stress in radiationinduced tissue damage in rat. In addition, it is also aimed to investigate the possible radioprotective effect of acute melatonin administration on radiationinduced liver damage. Adult male waster rats were used The results indicated that melatonin is nontoxic, have no side effects and did not show a marked change in the measured biochemical parameters such as the normal content of total proteins, nucleic acids and lipid profile was maintained to some extent. Additionally, melatonin decreased the oxidative stress and maintained the loss of cellular antioxidants resulted from irradiation. |
