Abstract Several adamantane derivatives have long been known for diverse biological properties, mainly as antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal and antiinflammatory agents. In addition, several tetrazoles, thiazolidinones and 1,3,4oxadiazoles were reported to possess various biological activities. On these bases new series of 1adamantyl derivatives have been synthesized as potential antiviral and/or antimicrobial agents. In order to obtain the target compounds, the following routes were adopted: 1.The reaction of 1bromoadamantane I with formamide to yield N(1adamantyl)formamide II, which was subsequently dehydrated to 1adamantylisocyanide III. Treatment of III with hydrazoic acid yielded 1(1adamantyl)tetrazole IV. 2.Treatment of IV with piperidine or morpholine and aqueous formaldehyde solution at ambient temperature yielded the corresponding 1(1adamantyl)5piperidino or morpholinomethyltetrazoles Va,b. |
