Abstract The increase in the electric power demands, the dense population and the increase in the number of cars in large cities tend to restrict the time required for making and repairing cable joints and also hinder the construction of large manholes. For such reasons, the development of efficient, durable and smaller joints for extra high voltage cables now widely used for the transmission of electric power is urgently required, but still there are some difficulties encountered to develop such joints. It is the main purpose of this work to clarify the effects of cable joints up in the performance of a cable system during surge and short circuit conditions of operation, plowing in this manner a closer control upon the sources of weakness in cable joint. The thesis is divided into 7 sections. Chapter (I) is R brief discussion of the development of electric power cables and the future trends in citable systems. |
