Abstract This study was undertaken to determine the rate of pathologic changes associated with impacted third molars. 902 patients were entered this study. Patients were allocated into two groups according to the of referral. Group I comprised 744 patients (341 females and 403 es) with a mean age of 27.76 ± 5.06 years. Group II comprised 158 ents (61 females and 97. males) with a mean age of (28.3 ± 7.19) years. ales and males were equally distributed and there was no statistically ficant difference in both sex and age disribution of the tested iiduals In both groups. Lesions encountered were; pericoronitis “56.87%”, periodontitis 5%”, caries in third molars “33.48%”, caries in second molars “26.94%”, resorption “1.22%”, unilocular radiolucencies “1.33%”, multilocular Iucencies “0.44%”, exposed third molars under dentures “0.22%”, and di bular angle fracture “0.11%”. from the results of this study, it could be concluded that: 1) Acute pericoronitis is the most commonly encountered pathologic condition with symptomatic impacted third molars. |
