Abstract This research was carried out to investigate the effect of the commonly used lubricants in addition to an emulsion of oil and water, on the die service life. The configuration size which was round to affect the die life was also studied. For this purpose, three different configuration sizes were tested for every type of lubricants. The design of experimental investigation for this research was a completely randomized design. The experimental error was calculated from four repeated tests selected at random. Special care was taken to hold other process parameters, such as die shape and size, die material, forge material, temperature or the forge, preheating of the die and the deformation speed.< The analysis of variance and regression analysis were conducted on every set of data. These analysis showed that , the use of graphite-water lubricant gave the best die life (100%) , while the graphite- Oil lubricant gave about 85.5% and Salt-water gave about 76.8% of the graphite water die life, the emulsion of oil in water gave the lowest die life, about 58 . 5 of gX8pbitewater. Also it was found t hat generally. |
