Abstract The Luminescence of plastically deformed irradiated CSI (Ti) crystals was studied. Samples of 2 mm * 8 mm * 5 mm were cleaved from the single crystal and were used without any pretreatment.All deformation were carried out in compression along the (100) dimension of the crystal symple by applying successive loads at rates of 0.01 to 0.001 kg. cm-2 s-1. The aim of the present work was to study the physical behaviour of irradiated or unirradiated CSI crystals, activated by 1% thallium, when excited by ultraviolet light or by mechanical deformation. On attempt was made to identify the color centers formed during such treatments. There application of these results to high dose estimation was considered. |
